Red Devils to do battle with rivals City for Cesc Fabregas?

Manchester United news and transfer rumours: Red Devils to do battle with rivals City for Cesc Fabregas?

United look increasingly likely to appoint Louis van Gaal as the club's new boss but which players could the Dutchman look to bring in at Old Trafford? Tug-of-war: Both United and City are said to be interested in Fabregas

Manchester United will appoint Louis van Gaal as their new manager as early as next week, writes our man David McDonnell.
The Holland coach is understood to have agreed a two-year deal with United - with the option of a further 12 months - and will install former Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert as his No.2.
United are expected to announce van Gaal's appointment after their final home game of the season against Hull on Tuesday, leaving the 62-year-old free to focus on the Dutch's World Cup campaign.
Alongside Kluivert, he is set to bring in his own backroom staff and must now make a decision on current caretaker boss Ryan Giggs.
Meanwhile, United have been hit by fresh fitness concerns over Wayne Rooney, after the striker pulled out of yesterday's training session.
The England man has suffered a number of problems this season and required a painkilling injection to play against Bayern Munich last month.
The club's medical staff will now assess Rooney before deciding if he can face Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday. He could well be left out by Giggs to ensure his World Cup campaign is not put in jeapordy.
