Arik denies aviation fuel theft on its aircraft

aviation fuel theft on arik air

The management of Arik Air has debunked reports that three of its staff were caught siphoning aviation fuel (Jet-A1) in the early hours of Sunday from one of its aircraft at the terminal of the Lagos International Airport.

The airline today released a statement through its Facebook page denying the reports.  According to the statement, the airline says the three people caught were siphoning fuel from a truck and not from an Arik Air aircraft.

The statement further reads that the airline does not own the aircraft (registration number 5N MID) from which the alleged act was committed.
“The suspects were arrested by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel after illegally draining fuel from the truck belonging to one of the major oil marketers at the ramp. It was discovered that the deal was done in connivance with the truck driver”.
“Arik Air management hereby absolved the airline of any complicity in the theft. The airline has an excellent safety record and will continue to operate with the highest safety standards it is known for”.
